Artist Statement

I center my practice on the ideas of identity, emotions, nostalgia, youth, and the naivety and ignorance that come with that. The pieces I have produced often serve as an open letter to myself, to specific people, or to the world at large. I am interested in inter- and intrapersonal connections. I often pull inspiration from my own experiences and truths as a daughter, sister, friend, first-generation immigrant, and Filipino-American woman. In addition, I endeavor to use my art to interpret the lives and stories of those unable to express themselves.

My work is sweet - almost saccharine. Through soft edges and smooth surfaces, I disguise perhaps sobering and melancholy realities into more approachable and digestible bites, allowing the seed for deeper introspection to be planted. I seek to widen the door for interpretation and inclusivity in my work. I hope to produce a spark of familiarity and relatability within the spectator - to create an invisible string between us.
